“SETC staff realized that developing and celebrating the design, engineering, and inventing prowess of neighborhood teens would translate into early interest in [technology] among their younger peers”
-Dr. Millner, Professor at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering
Founded in 1997 by Civil Rights leader Mel King in partnership with Tent City and MIT, the South End Technology Center (SETC) was created to broaden access to technology in Boston. In 2003, SETC and MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms launched the world’s first “Fab Lab,” bringing digital fabrication to the community.
Your donation to the South End Technology Center helps bridge the digital divide by providing free technology education to underserved communities. With your support, we equip individuals—young and old—with the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world. From coding and digital design to hands-on fabrication in our Fab Lab, SETC empowers people to become creators, not just consumers, of technology. Every contribution fuels access to knowledge, innovation, and opportunity. Join us in making technology education accessible for all—donate today!
